Maybe the NFL is Really, Really Simple This Year
In the absence of a really dominant team maybe the playoffs really do just come down to one thing.
| 1 | Pittsburgh | 3795 | 237.2 | 1284 | 80.3 | 2511 | 156.9 | 223 | 13.9 |
| 2 | Tennessee | 4698 | 293.6 | 1502 | 93.9 | 3196 | 199.8 | 234 | 14.6 |
| 3 | Baltimore | 4177 | 261.1 | 1302 | 81.4 | 2875 | 179.7 | 244 | 15.3 |
| 4 | Philadelphia | 4389 | 274.3 | 1476 | 92.3 | 2913 | 182.1 | 289 | 18.1 |
Wait a minute, isn’t there another playoff team alive?
| 28 | Arizona | 5304 | 331.5 | 1764 | 110.3 | 3540 | 221.3 | 426 | 26.6 |
Hmm, according to this logic Arizona either completely and totally thwarts the “defense wins championships” thought process … or is a huge fluke. Here is hoping it’s the latter …

One quibble: Arizona is 18th in yards against, not 28th. AZ is 28th in points against. If you’re going to sort by PA/G, you have to include the Titans at #2, and push Baltimore and Philly down a spot.
Either way, I’m going with “huge fluke” considering Atlanta and Carolina were 5th and 6th in the NFC in PA/G, respectively.
Fixed.
I had been jumping around in checking past years and got must have gotten the rankings mixed up.
