 Long Weekend Rounds

categories | Afternoon Rounds

Since we last checked in last Wednesday the Eagles have set themselves up for a possible resurrection this Sunday, the Sixers have dug themselves into a rut and are searching for answers, the Flyers have tread water, and the Phillies did nothing, which might be the most interesting fact out of the bunch.

Seeing as we caught you up with none of that over the long weekend we’re going to catch up with all the most important things you might have missed.  It’s not what everybody was talking about, but hopefully it’ll be most of what is still being discussed. READ them all.

EAGLES

Reuben Frank has a smart breakdown of the boom-or-bust Birds.  He doesn’t find an answer, but he’s asking the right questions.

Phil Sheridan provides nice look at a moment in the Reid era through the anatomy of a press conference.

Mike Sielski, who apparently still works in this town, breaks down all the other bad decisions Reid-the-GM has made.

SIXERS

Phil Jasner provides a positive moment amidst the Sixers slump: Theo Ratliff.

I’m not including this article because of it’s insight, I’m including it because I want it on the record.  Martin Frank checks in on Ed Stefanski’s first year on the job and offers high praise.  Maybe Stefanski has earned it, but seeing as his two big moves were handing AI2 $22 million more than any other team could pay him to pay the small forward out of position and bringing in a star power forward who has yet to jell with his new team, I’d be inclined to suggest that the jury is still out on Stefanski.

Tom Moore noticed something about Elton Brand that I’m guessing you didn’t - he lines up left of center when he’s shooting free throws.  Moore is a good beat reporter, and in a good beat reporter move, he finds an answer to a question we didn’t know we had.

PHILLIES

Todd Zolecki notes that the offseason activity is about to seriously pick up.

Scott Lauber reports that former CHA/UDel product Mike Koplove is coming home.

Ken Mandel reports that the Phillies are likely to offer both of their type-A free agents arbitration.

FLYERS

Sam Cardichi points out that Jeff Carter’s quest to become a superstar is being helped by his gritty linemates.

Wayne Fish looks at the possibility of ex-Flyer Luke Richardson joining several other ex-Flyers as coaches.

Chuck Gormley has the latest on the NHL’s pleas for self-enforcement.
