Morning Rounds, October 6th
Ten minutes after the Phillies advanced to their first LCS in fifteen years I flicked on WIP and was chagrined to hear nothing but Eagles’ bashing. We won’t make the same mistake here.
We’ll get to both games later, but first … what’s off about this picture?

The correct is not “the entire team is celebrating, how is no one in this picture except Pedro Feliz” or even “if he’s not pouring it on his head, why isn’t he just drinking it?” the correct answer that “THE PHILLIES CELEBRATED WITH ANDRE!”
Maybe this strikes me as more odd than most but I don’t think so. When I was in school I was both on a budget and I loved celebrating, two things that led me to Andre. Passed an exam? We’re getting Andre. Won a beruit tourny? Andre. Presidents day? Victoria day? It’s Tuesday? Andre, Andre, Andre. Advanced to the National League Championship Series … uh? I duno, Veuve? Definitely not Andre.
I don’t know if this is a byproduct of winning on the road, saving their victory budget for more important wins down the road, or what, but after taking a nice-champagne shower after winning the East the Phillies seriously downgraded their victory drink of choice. Watching guys who make millions of dollars to play a game shower themselves with a $5 bubbly was hilarious - I felt like my team had just won the champong divisional series. Good times.
“Know what I’d like people to call me? A winner, that’s what.” - Charlie Manuel
Three lines on their world:
- The Dodgers took care of the Cubs without incident, and will travel to Philadelphia for the NLCS
- The LAAA took down the Red Sox in 12 to force a game four
- While the Redskins and the Giants and the Cowboys all looked like the team to beat in the NFC East
Three lines on ours:
- The Phillies left Milwaukee division series champions
- and move on to the Championship series against the Dodgers. Game 1 Thursday at the Bank
- The Eagles lost a divison game to a banged up team, at home
Phillies, Birds, Sixers, Flyers and what everybody is talking about after the jump

TODAY and MORE
Sorry this is coming out late tonight, between the Inquirer sending every rando from their city desk out to find out if fans were happy or sad about the Philadelphia sports scene there was quite a bit of coverage today.
We’ll be looking at the win and the loss and what they mean going forward. As always, feel free to email with any questions, suggestions, comments or complaints.

since it would be an asshole move for you to do it yourself, i’ll say “i told you so” on your behalf: http://sportscomplex.blogs.citypaper.net/blogs/mu/2008/07/18/a-look-at-the-phillies-new-pitching/.
good call on Blanton. are there really any Phils fans who wish we had Adrian Cardenas instead of the other half of the Red-neck Recking crew right now? didn’t think so.
I wouldn’t put it past me to loudly say “I told you so” I was just kinda scared about linking to a piece where I advocated sending Myers to the bullpen.
FYI, picture of the shirt HERE\
apparently “redneck” is one word. Who knew?
