PHILS-FISH

Tonight:
Kyle Kendrick (11-8, 5.06) is back like neon jackets and pro keds (just you wait) when he takes on Chris Volstad (4-3, 3.32) and the Marlins at Citizens Bank Park.  While the Phillies have been locked in playoff races - they start the night 1.5 back in the East and three back in the wild card - the once mighty Marlins have fallen out of contention.  Still, they played spoiler last year and have the talent to do it again, so lets hope the Phils come out sharp and ready to go.

The Pitchers: The 21-year-old rookie has given the Marlins quality innings since he arrived in the bigs.  He’s coming off a no-decision against the Braves where he gave up three runs in six innings - still, he might be running into the rookie wall, he walked five and is over his previous IP high.

Kendrick’s struggles have been a little better documented.  He has an ERA over nine in his past five starts and was just bumped from the rotation in favor of Cole Hamels.  With J.A. Happ throwing Thursday the pressure is just a little greater for Kendrick, as he knows he may be pitching for his job.

The Players: The Marlins entire infield continues to rake and all have over 20 home runs.  Jimmy Rollins will try and counter, the reigning MVP is hitting .362 in his last 16 games and stole three bags last night.

The Meaning: A win today puts heat on the Mets and Brewers, a loss takes the Phils one step closer to watching October on the small screen.

Rich Hofmann says that Pacman Jones is running his mouth already.  If I were him I think I’d concentrate more on staying out of jail and less on being a dbag.  To each their own though, I suppose.

Iggles Blog says that the upcoming game is must-win for Dallas.  It’s wrong - no such thing in week two - but interesting.
